Nauset sophomore Coralea Geraniotis ran a 16 second personal best in the 2-Mile at the MIAA All State meet in Boston to finish in 8th place with a new school record time of 11:23. Geraniotis, who ran in the first heat of her event, set out on an aggressive pace from the start running in second place for the majority of the race before surging to the win with a strong final two laps.

Her quick time moved her past several competitors of the seeded section, onto the medal stand, and into the Nauset High School record books as the first indoor track athlete to both qualify for and score at the All State Meet. The All State meet is the final and most prestigious high school indoor track competition of the season, combining all divisions and regions in Massachusetts to bring together the top 24 athletes in each event.

Geraniotis' previous 2-Mile best had been 11:39, which she ran en route to her ACL Championship in the event earlier this month. Coralea will now take a short rest before returning to a base training phase focused on preparing her for a return to the Championship portion of the outdoor track season.

<![CDATA[Burke and Geraniotis Crowned at Nauset's First Ever ACL Indoor Champions]]>Tue, 05 Feb 2013 16:02:37 GMThttp://www.capecodharriers.com/1/post/2013/02/burke-and-geraniotis-crowned-at-nausets-first-ever-acl-indoor-champions.html
After just over a year "in business," Junior Andrew Burke and Sophomore Coralea Geraniotis became Nauset Regional High School's first ever individual ACL Indoor Track Champions after capturing league titles in the Mile and 2 Mile runs, respectively. Both athletes utilized crushing kicks to outdistance their competitors en route to personal bests and clear victories in their events.

Coralea Geraniotis weathered a quick early pace in the 2 mile before surging to the lead in the final 400 meters of the competition and sprinting her way into the record books as Nauset's first ever female ACL Indoor Champion. Geraniotis, who has worked on her strength all year defeated former State Champion Jordan O'dea of DY and All State performer Lauren O'Neil on her way to victory. A time of 11:39 was a 55 second personal best in the event for the swift sophomore who before last night had only competed once in the 2 mile. Senior Molly Crowell continued her string of impressive performances by placing second in the 600 meter run with a new personal best of 1:42.01. Crowell dueled eventual champion and nationally ranked athlete Danielle Griffin of Norwell all the way to the line. Molly and Coralea will now turn their focus to competing next week at the MIAA Division 3 Indoor State Championships.

Andrew Burke ran a time of 4:33.5 for the one mile run to outdistance his next closest competitor by 4 seconds. Riley Wilkins, a senior, also competed strong for the Warriors taking third place in the event in a time of 4:44. Senior Chad Avery also had a great showing for Nauset placing second in the Long Jump with a leap of 19'-2". All three athletes will represent NRHS at the MIAA Division 3 Indoor State Championships in Boston on February 14.
